Spotlight on Alex White

Hi Alex White let’s start with work; what does a ‘normal’ day constitute for you?

As a Data Scanner my job role mainly involves checking scanned documents of staff members that work at the three offices and one day a week now (was five days as Sarbjeet is now with us!) scanning documents onto IO and also sometimes into INVU.

How long have you been with the company?

I have been working for Newell Palmer since March 2015.

When you were a child, what job did you want to do?

I wanted to be a bus driver as I like travelling (albeit not locally!) but now as an adult I can see how they struggle with awkward passengers and long work hours so I don’t think I want to be one now!

Work in silence or with music, background chatter and noise?

Music is always better maybe Radio or a good variety of music!

What’s your greatest moment working here so far?

I guess it would be going to the Summer and Christmas events as enjoy the food and drink.

What’s your drink of choice while you’re working?

Green Tea, Red bush Tea or Water…. never drink Coffee!

And when you’re not working?

Red Wine, Magners cider or Guinness

Name the best place you’ve ever visited.

Cologne, Germany was a beautiful city especially around the Cathedral area.

And how about the place that’s currently top of your ‘to visit’ list?

Tokyo, Japan rather than the usual holiday destinations! As prefer urban surroundings rather than tropical places

If you have the choice between staying in and going out, which do you normally choose and what do you normally do?

Both really I like going to the cinema or out for meals but on the other hand I like watching Netflix or playing the Nintendo Switch.

What’s the one talent you have that people in your office are unaware of?

I guess it would be my good really good memory as I can (sometimes not always!) quote what happened from years ago and remember what I did and said in quite some detail.

What would your ‘Desert Island’ disc, film and book be?

Disc or MP3 (nowadays!) would be Suede Coming up album (plus they are still making music so not feeling too old!)

Film would be any of the Insidious films

Don’t tend to read books so I guess a magazine or daily newspaper would be better!

Do you prepare well in advance or are you a ‘last minute’ person?

I like to prepare in advance and know where or what I’m doing (not good with surprises!)

Who’d play you in the film of your life?

I guess it would be Matt Damon (good actor in all of his films!)

DIY or call an expert?

Call an expert or go to Ikea!

If you had to compete at the Olympics, in any event, real or fake, what would you choose?

Not sure if Basketball is in the Olympics but maybe that and just fake it or attempt to play!

Do you ‘do’ Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn? Are they useful?

Yes I do Facebook and sometimes find it useful to keep in touch with friends and family

Physical book or e-book? Do you still buy a paper? Which one?

I don’t read books often so a newspaper one of the tabloids (just not the Daily Mail!)

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being ‘not at all’, how clued up on technology do you feel you are?

I would say 8 as been using computers since I was about 5 years old but not the best with all IT aspects but have an understanding of using some computer software and online shopping with no problems!
